We offer a Grade 6 and 7 program at both our Senior School in Toronto and at our school in Mississauga and the programs are almost identical. Our program in Mississauga is offered from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 7 and after Grade 7, Mississauga students are encouraged to continue their studies at the Senior School at the Toronto campus. A complimentary shuttle bus service is offered for our Mississauga graduates who continue at our Senior School in Toronto. Following the French Ministry of Education guidelines, the transition from a class-based program to a subject-based program takes place in Grade 6, the beginning of the Collège level. Although students retain their homeroom base, they are taught by specialist teachers. The curriculum is structured with clearly defined subjects. Using an interdisciplinary approach, teachers set curricula goals, address the needs of each student, and integrate the Whole Child philosophy. The inclusion of cross-curricular project work is used to stimulate interest, and group activities help students to develop co-operative and social skills. Organizational and learning skills, such as time management, are also taught. The students spend approximately two-thirds of their day in a French language classroom environment. As we do in the younger grades, TFS offers a one-year introductory program. The Grade 6/7 Introductory French course is a specialized program which provides an entry point to the School for students with little or no knowledge of French. A multimedia, audio-visual approach with a strong vocabulary base motivates the students to develop their competency to a high level. Students attend regular classes in English, Guidance, Music, Art and Physical Education. This dynamic approach allows our introductory students to integrate into the regular classes the following year with a support program offered to those students who require it.
