PRE-KINDERGARTEN (PETITE SECTION)

Aims & Objectives
Our goal is to help 3 year old children integrate into the school environment and adapt to a milieu in which learning and communication takes place in French.

Program

Living Together
Teachers help the children understand how the School works. Emphasis is placed on self-respect, respect for others and their belongings, and respect for school property. In addition, teachers foster the development of interpersonal relationships as well as listening and communication skills between child and child, and between child and adult.

Physical Activities
Beyond the pleasure they afford, games enable children to reinforce the sense of balance, poise and self-confidence they acquire through physical movement.

Oral and Written Communication
Once a natural communication flow between teacher and child has been established, strong emphasis is placed on language development. As the year progresses, the children are encouraged to increase their use of French during classroom activities.

Capabilities with gestures and drawings are further developed through activities that integrate the use of writing tools and a variety of other support materials. Particular attention is given to hand positioning as well as to the development of fine motor skills, through exercises designed to help with muscle tone.

Artistic and Aesthetic Activities
Children are gradually made aware of their aesthetic environment. A variety of teaching tools, formats and materials provide them with a broad range of sensory experiences, allowing them to use different faculties of perception to do different kinds of work.

Musical Activities
Movement, rhythm and melody are integrated through listening, singing, and playing percussion instruments. Children learn a beginning repertoire of French songs.

Mathematical, Scientific and Technical Activities
The teacher awakens the children’s curiosity about those aspects of the environment that relate most closely to their own experience: the five senses, physical awareness, water, the body and clothing. Basic mathematical and scientific concepts are introduced in the form of observation and sensory games.
