What does it cost to attend TFS?
At TFS, tuition payments cover the operational costs of educating a student. As an independent school, the margin of excellence TFS provides is thanks to the generous financial support of our parent community and alumni.
Initial Registration Fee
New students are charged a one-time only registration fee. This fee applies to all new students entering from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 (Level V).
The non-refundable fee is $7,000 for the Toronto campus and $1,500 for the West Campus. For information regarding tuition and other costs please review our full schedule of fees and costs.
Parents of students entering Jardin d’éveil in Toronto will pay the initial registration fee over two instalments (50% at the time of registration, 50% the following year at registration).
Introductory French Program
Our Introductory French Program is available to students in their first year at TFS, up to and including Grade 7 who have no, or minimal, prior knowledge of French. As of Grade 1, an additional fee of $1,600 is applied for this introductory program.
A family discount in the amount of $500 for each full-time student is available to families with three or more children in the school.
Tuition Refund Insurance
The school strongly encourages parents to take advantage of the optional Tuition Refund Plan, available through Dewar Insurance. This program offers parents an opportunity to insure fees in the event of student withdrawal or dismissal, provided the student has attended more than 14 consecutive calendar days commencing with the student's first class day of attendance in the academic year, according to the Terms and Definitions of the policy. The insurance premium is approximately 2.5% of the annual tuition fees including HST. This one-time fee is due and payable in full at the time of registration.
TFS is a non-profit organization and we would not be where we are today without the generous financial support of our community. In fact, TFS would not exist without philanthropy; it is part of the fabric of our school.
While tuition fees cover the basic operational costs, annual gifts help provide for an enriched educational experience, supporting everything from technology, program and facility enhancements to scholarships.
Quite simply, every TFS student (including yours!), regardless of their age, interests, strengths or potential, is touched by resources made possible through the support of our community. The average annual gift is $1,500 per child.
TFS offers families three payment options when paying tuition fees:
- Lump sum
- Three instalments
- Monthly instalments
Receipts for Income Tax Purposes
The Business Office issues receipts by the end of February that can be used for income tax purposes. The amount and availability of these receipts vary by age, grade and tax year. Receipts which are issued include:
- Before and After School Care – Applies to all TFS students to age 16, for that period of time that is supervised and non-academic
- Education Tax Receipt (T2202A) – Due to the postsecondary nature of the International Baccalaureate Diploma program, a portion of tuition fees paid towards Grades 11 and 12 (Levels IV and V) is considered deductible for income tax purposes
- Children’s Fitness Tax Credit – Receipts will be issued for the School’s Competitive Sports Fee
- Philanthropic Gifts – A charitable tax receipt will be issued for all gifts of $20 or more
