Chris Chan, '89 - at TFS from 1983 to 1989 With no prior knowledge of the French language, Chris joined Toronto French School in 1983 as an intro Grade 7 student. An active participant in school life during his six years at TFS, Chris was a tutor, prefect, co-head Library Monitor, member of the Scholar's Guild, and member of the Canadian Chemistry Olympiad Team, which took home the bronze medal during his graduating year. Having excelled at math and chemistry during his years at TFS, Chris went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1995. He continued his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, and during his last year was named Chief Medical Resident. From 1999-2002 he held the position of Chief Nephrology Resident, while completing the Clinician Scientist Program. Currently Chris is a Staff Nephrologist and Medical Director of Home Hemodialysis at the Toronto General Hospital, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He is also an acclaimed kidney specialist. From 2000 to 2002 he was the Kidney Foundation of Canada's Biomedical Fellow, and in 2003 was awarded the Haemodialysis Research Award from the International Hemodialysis Society. His contribution to the field continues to improve the quality of life and survival of patients suffering from kidney failure. "I entered TFS as an "intro" student with limited French and my transition into the regular program was very smooth," says Chris. "At Graduation, I realized that I had a unique and solid foundation for the future." Chris's son is now attending TFS.
