Basking in the Silvery Glow of EcoSchool Certification

After months of hard work, collaboration and eventual inspection by Ontario EcoSchools, we are proud and delighted to announce that the Senior School and Mississauga campus have been certified silver! Said Todd Billo, Director of Facilities, of the certification, “It is thanks to the teaching staff and students that we have achieved this.”

In particular, our certification is the result of the efforts of Josette Bouchard-Muller, Senior School Social Science teacher, and from the Mississauga campus, Brigitte Matthey, SK teacher, and Philippe Sogon, Grade 6/7 French, history and geography teacher, and Colette El-Khoury, Intro teacher.

The examinations by the EcoSchool inspector took place on May 17th and May 20th, at the Mississauga campus and Senior School, respectively. Though he reviewed physical changes and programs that the School has put in place, including a move away from disposable plastic water bottles and organic waste diversion, the emphasis was firmly on the curriculum. The inspector also actively engaged students at both branches in conversations about the environment and their efforts.

The aim of the organization is to educate students, who will, in turn, educate their peers, parents and siblings, creating a ground swell of behavioural change in relation to our environment.  “It’s all about education and merging the School’s environmental processes with the classroom,” said Mr. Billo.

Huge thanks go to our student, teacher, staff and parent leaders for taking TFS down a much greener path!
