Grade 3 International Day Celebrates the World at TFS
On the International Days at the Mississauga and Toronto campuses, the Grade 3 classes embodied the world. Each Day – May 8th at the Junior School, and May 14th in Mississauga – marked the culmination of months of study by the Grade 3 students. At the beginning of the unit, each student was asked to choose a country (not Canada!) to study, which might be the county of their family’s origin, or a place they had vacationed, for example. Once chosen, the students had to study the geographical, cultural and social aspects of their countries, such as comparing that country’s educational system to our own. Their findings formed the basis of a table-top display. On International Day at the Junior School, each student, in national dress, gave an oral presentation to their peers. Then parents were invited to tour the displays and ask the students questions. In Mississauga, the costumed students gave presentations to their parents instead, with the parents querying their children on their chosen country. In both Toronto and Mississauga, students from other grades had a chance to tour the exhibits and learn about the countries displayed. All this hard work was rewarded with a multicultural lunch on both campuses, with tables of food set up all around the gym. Where else could you choose your main course from Latin America and dessert from Africa except at TFS?
