Grade 5 Students Display Scientific Capability en français

After one month of formulating their hypotheses and undertaking scientific inquiry, the Grade 5 students at both the Mississauga and Toronto campuses were ready to debut their Science Forum projects.

As part of the French curriculum, the students embarked on science projects of their choosing in small groups or own their own. Some of the projects included: how to make paper, les détergents et les détachants, le ballon magique - la dilatation et la contraction, les trombones qui dansent and le code des couleurs.

Each project topic had to have an associated hypothesis, and the students then tested their hypotheses using the scientific method. All experimentation took place in class and the projects and their findings were put into a display format.

On April 26th at the Mississauga campus, the Grade 5 students presented their scientific experiments to an audience of their parents and fellow students from Grades 4, 6 and 7. Those who took in the displays asked the young scientists questions, and the projects and oral explanations were judged by the older students.

At the Toronto campus on April 27th, parents toured the Grade 5 classes to view the various projects. The projects’ creators described their experiments and outcomes to them. All Grade 5 classes were invited to review their peers’ experiments as well. The next day, the Grade 4 students examined the science projects, as a preview of what they will be doing in the school year to come!
