Gymnastics Championship a Win-Win for TFS Students and Staff
The 2010 OFSAA Gymnastics Championship, held on April 25th and 26th at Ridley College in St. Catharines, proved to be a winning success for both TFS athletes and staff.
At the opening banquet on April 25th, Heli Oder, TFS physical education teacher and the guiding force behind the School’s gymnastics program, was given the OFSAA Leadership in School Sport Award, much to her great surprise! Nominated by her assistant coach, and Junior School Branch Coordinator, Manuela Olibera-Dorn, the award recognized Ms. Oder’s tremendous contribution to sports in education over the past 25 years.
Building on that well-deserved acknowledgment, the TFS participants put in stellar performances and all walked away with a medal. Chantal S., a Level II student, won gold on the balance beam in her category and was featured in the Toronto Star. Meanwhile, classmate Chloé L. achieved 5th place in the floor exercise. Both girls faced 100 other gymnasts in their category, from 44 schools province-wide.
TFS’ Sports Aerobics Team – a discipline whose participants must perform complex and high-intensity movement patterns to music – won the silver medal. The team members were: Kathryn D., Chloé L., Alicia R. and Sarah S., Level II, and Isabelle F., Level III.
Congratulations to all the girls – and their coaches – for their exemplary performances and achievements!
