Meet Our Level V Scholar-Athletes
At TFS, the academic programs are rigorous. This is especially evident during the last two years of school, when our students undertake the IB Diploma program. Yet, despite this challenge, many of our Level V scholars distinguished themselves as acclaimed athletes as well. We want to introduce you to some of the impressive scholar-athletes who were in Level V this year, and who demonstrated excellence in both academic and athletic performance, as well as intellectual curiosity. Victoria B. has not only been a Cum Laude student since Level I, and a member of the Scholars’ Guild, she has also been Co-Captain of the Senior Swim Team since 2007. She has won many awards for her swimming skill, as well as playing basketball and softball for TFS. Victoria is also a serious student of the piano. Margherita C. has studied the martial art Wushu since she was five years old; now ranked second nationally, she is a member of the Canadian National Team. Determined not to let her competitions interfere with academics, Margherita has been both a Cum Laude student and Scholars’ Guild member. Her extended essay on the history of Wushu is highly regarded. A competitive skier for many years, Alexandra F., like many of her scholar-athlete peers, is also a Cum Laude student and Scholars’ Guild member. She also placed third in the Ontario Provincial Debating Championship, French division, this spring, even though she had never debated before. Alexandra is a noted equestrienne, as well. Angus M. has played hockey for seven years, soccer for five and softball for three, obtaining not only championships but also leadership positions on his teams. He too is a Cum Laude student. Angus also chose to integrate his love of sports – in this case hockey – with academics in his extended essay. That essay was published on The Physics of Hockey website. After playing squash for only five years, Eamon O. attained a top-10 ranking nationally, and a top six in Ontario. He has been a Cum Laude student for a number of years, and represented TFS at a national CAIS student leadership conference. Eamon has been recruited as a squash athlete to attend a prominent US university. Aislinn T. is a highly accomplished hockey and soccer player, who has been Assistant Captain of her hockey team for two years, and Co-Captain of her TFS soccer teams for three and fours years, respectively. She, too, is a Cum Laude student, and received first prize in standard level chemistry last year. Congratulations to our wonderful scholar-athletes on their remarkable dual accomplishment! We have no doubt they will continue to shine at the universities of their choice.
