Mississauga Fun Fair and BBQ a Soaking Success

On Thursday, June 3rd, at 3pm in Mississauga, it poured rain. However, nothing, not even the impromptu shower, could stop the Mississauga BBQ from taking place! It even complemented one of the new features at this year’s event – a cold-water dunk tank.

The party began with Ulrik Bedos’ (Grade 6 and 7 math and science teacher) Grade 7 Dance Group performing in the gym. Also located in the gym were teacher-librarian Marie Malik’s jewelry sale and the silent auction. The item that garnered the highest bid was a French Dinner for 6, to be personally prepared by Mississauga Principal Alain Delaune, followed by an iPad, a river bench, tickets to the Toronto FC and a condo in Collingwood for one week during next year’s March Break. In total, the silent auction raised $6,580.00.

Meanwhile outdoors, many were braving the rain and dips in the dunk tank. The courageous dippers included teachers Cynthia Polan, Nathalie Doucet, Jonel Destré, Louise Soucy and Ulrik Bedos, Technical Support Analyst, Shane Young, and Principal Alain Delaune. Their sacrifice of dignity and sportsmanship in the name of school spirit netted $1,070 for the PA Fund.

Fortunately, the rain dispersed just in time for dinner, which included many catered food items. In fact, 575 attendees enjoyed this wonderful TFS Mississauga tradition. It could not have taken place without all of the fantastic TFS families, volunteers and donors who participated to make this year’s Fun Fair and BBQ truly memorable.

Finally, this year’s BBQ would not have been possible without the teamwork among our Mississauga Parents Association and the Fun Fair and BBQ Committee: Lori Bianchini, Josee MacDonald, Sonya Neufer, Renee Baena Tan and Victoria Knight. Thank you for your hard work and high spirits!
