Sampling the World at the Junior School’s International Day
On Friday, May 7th Grade 3 students, staff and proud parents had the chance to appreciate cultures from around the globe, as part of the Junior School’s annual International Day presentation.
International Day marks the finale of many weeks of research and writing by the Grade 3 students. Along with the study of Canada, the students concurrently study countries from abroad. This parallel structure allows the students to compare and contrast, and to discover the unique richness that each culture has to offer.
On the big day, parents toured classrooms to view displays created by the students to explain the key characteristics of each country and culture, and to admire the students in costume. Activities then moved downstairs to the gym, where students gave a musical performance. A celebratory lunch followed, where bite-sized delicacies from each child’s chosen country were served.
Through sight, sound and taste, the International Day participants enjoyably took in the world, all without having to leave the comforts of the Junior School behind.
