TFS Honours its Class of 2009

At TFS, a series of celebrations take place to honour our graduates as they conclude their student life and become alumni.

On May 27th, at the Headmaster’s Dinner, Dr. John Godfrey welcomed graduates, their parents and staff to an elegant evening in our own La Terrasse. Dressed in their finest, the students enjoyed a gourmet dinner and were each presented with their TFS Diploma by Dr. Godfrey and Heidi Gollert, Principal of the Senior School.

Then on the afternoon of May 29th, the official graduation ceremony for the Class of 2009 got underway as Mme Gollert said, “Today is all about you! It’s a bit of a love-in, but that’s the way it’s supposed to be.”

Each remarkable student was personally introduced to the audience, his or her areas of excellence, subject accomplishments and individual quirks duly and affectionately noted. Then the new graduates received their Ontario Secondary School Diploma from Dr. Godfrey, in front of their proud families, friends, peers, teachers and other staff members.

After remarks from the Chair of the Board, Lena Sarkissian, the guest speaker took the stage. Carol Piovesan, Class of ’95, is not only a TFS grad, but also the recipient of TFS’ first Alumni of Distinction Award, for her dedication to social justice in the developing world. Ms. Piovesan captivated not just the students but the entire audience with her moving and inspiring speech.

Valedictorians Samantha C. and Robin Y gave equally heartfelt words of thanks. They spoke of the closeness and warmth shared by the graduating class and their deep appreciation for all that is TFS. Said Robin Y. of the School, “It redefines the limits of high school education.”
Proving the point, a long list of awards was then presented to the outstanding members of this most accomplished class. Finally, graduates Leah D. and Erin I. sang a stunning rendition of For Good from the musical Wicked.

The ceremony ended with a brand new TFS tradition, as the graduating class was lead out of the gym by a bagpipe player in full Scottish dress.
Felicitations, bonne chance et bon voyage to our Class of 2009!
