TFS Science Success at Annual Science Olympics
On May 2nd, six young scientists from Grades 4 & 5 at the Junior School and three from Grade 6 in Mississauga took part in the Annual Independent Schools Junior Science Olympics hosted by Crescent School. By the end of the day, the entire TFS team (Grades 4 through 6) placed fourth overall, while the Grade 6 contingent from Mississauga – made up of Kyle R., Stephanie D., and Harrison C. –came in first for their grade!
Students in each grade were asked to volunteer to participate, with the final three selected to represent each grade chosen at random.
The event is organized annually by the Grade 11 students at Crescent School. Each grades’ participants undergo a series of challenges, such as building the highest weight bearing structure out of books or newspapers, or guiding light through a maze with mirrors, with the challenges changing year to year. The final test sees all students reorganized into different groups to accomplish a last task. Prizes are then awarded.
