TFS Students Lift Veterans’ Spirits during Sunnybrook Concert

On Thursday, May 20th, many of the TFS Music Ensembles from the Senior School, under the direction of music teachers David Arnot-Johnston and Rupert Price, performed a concert at the Veterans' Wing of Sunnybrook Hospital. Our Wind Ensemble, String Ensemble, Chamber Choir and Jazz Ensemble all performed a variety of selections ranging from 1930's swing to modern musicals in the performance hall, which was filled to capacity with patients and staff from the hospital.

"Before we perform at Sunnybrook, both Mr. Price and I like to stress to the students that this is a chance to give something back to the community, a chance to make people happy with music-making, and a chance to perform for those who are not always able to get out to hear a live concert. The event also offers an occasion for TFS students to meet our veterans in a relaxed atmosphere," explained Mr. Arnot-Johnston.

The master of ceremonies of the concert was once again Lloyd Queen, a World War II veteran, who was also a Director of Music Education in the Government of Ontario for many years after the war. Mr. Queen was generous in his praise of our students' performance, and again invited us back to perform again soon. This was TFS’ fourth visit to the Veterans' Wing in the last few years, and we hope to continue this tradition.
