The Gym Show Takes Flight at TFS On April 7th, the 2009 Gym Show at the Senior School demonstrated once again the amazing creativity, dedication and talent of TFS’ students and staff.

Titled “En Vol” (In Flight), the show included over 70 students from JK through Level V, including select performers from Mississauga. It began with a floor routine from the JKC class who captivated the audience from the start dressed as miniature supermen and women.

This was followed by a dazzling set of solo and team performances by some very talented TFS girls. Whether tumbling across mats, tossing hoops in elaborate patterns or executing floor routines in synch, the girls mesmerized the audience with their skills. Margherita C., an international, gold-medal winning martial artist and TFS student, also introduced the audience to wushu – a martial art in the style of Hidden Tiger, Crouching Dragon – through her astounding demonstration with the straight sword.

Though only girls belong to the competitive gymnastics teams at the School, boys were recruited to bring their own brand of athleticism to the show. Daniel L., also a member of the East York Gymnastics Club, riveted the audience with his powerful solo floor routine, and led the team of Les Boys in their series of escalating flips. Joining Les Boys were members of TFS’ staff, including the Gym Show’s creator and physical education teacher Heli Oder, along with her colleagues Chantal Malcolm, Mississauga’s own Alexandre Ferrand, and volunteer assistant coach Manuela Olibera-Dorn. Who said those over 30 can’t jump?

A TFS tradition for over 20 years, the Gym Show still brings together members from across the community, from the athletic, artistic and technical, to student participants and audiences from all three branches.

All we can say is merci, Mme Oder!
