The Junior School Fun Fair Shines Indoors and Out
There is nothing like Mother Nature to force changes to even the best-laid plans. So on Saturday, June 5th, in the face of unpredictable weather, for the first time ever the Junior School’s Kermesse moved over to the Senior School, taking advantage of extra space, both indoors and out.
Despite the lack of sunshine, the games and inflatables re-located to the Senior School gym were as successful as always, with the biggest crowd pleasers being the O.K. Corral and Tropical Obstacle Course. A wide variety of games ensured that children of all ages had something to particularly enjoy. Another Kermesse first saw almost all volunteer shifts at the games and activities staffed by Senior School students. Ticket sales from the enthusiastic game participants resulted in $21,000 for the PA Fund.
Of course, no Fun Fair would be complete without food, and this year included a “Tastes of the World” menu for those interested in international flavours, along with perennial favourites like cotton candy, snow cones and the bake sale.
Also new this year was the creation of class baskets. Student families were asked to contribute to a themed basket; the items were then collected and beautifully wrapped by the Junior School Branch Team, and sold at the silent auction, along with children’s artwork and many donated items. The baskets and artwork alone raised $10,390. Altogether, the silent auction brought in $22,500, and its success owes a huge thank you to the Silent Auction Team, who not only organized the auction, but put together an auction catalogue!
In total, the Toronto campus PA expects to net approximately $31,500 from the 2010 Kermesse, after expenses are paid, with the monies to be allocated towards IT hardware and software, audio-visual materials, playground equipment and more.
Congratulations and thank you to Tina Bose, volunteer Fun Fair Co-ordinator, and to her dedicated teams of parent, staff and student volunteers!
