Sonia Keuroghlian, '96 - at TFS from 1986 to 1996

Sonia joined TFS as a Grade 3 student in 1986 and was very involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities during her years at the School.  Sonia was the Yearbook Staff Editor, attended Classics Conferences, participated in the Model UN, and was a great debater.  Indeed, it may have been her love of debating that led her to pursue a career in law.

After graduating from TFS in 1996, Sonia attended the University of Toronto where she obtained a BA in French and Art History.  She then pursued her law degree at the University of Western Ontario.  In her second year of law school, Sonia was a caseworker at the university's  Legal Services Clinic where she defended the rights of a Francophone client who, during his arrest and detention by the police, was denied his constitutional right to be spoken to in French.  After having presented her arguments entirely in the French language, Sonia's client was acquitted.  The case resulted in a landmark decision, making it incumbent upon the House of Commons to modify the Criminal Code to better guarantee the language rights of accused individuals. Sonia graduated with her LLB in June 2002, and was called to the Bar in 2003.

"I am grateful for the excellent training I received at TFS," says Sonia.  "On almost a daily basis, I am called upon to assist with French language work at my firm and my proficiency in French has proven to be a real asset."
