Junior School Libraries – Programs |
|
The Toronto French School branch libraries in Toronto and Mississauga offer a range of programs. Here is a selection:
Silver Birch Award
Grade 4 - 5 students can take part in the Silver Birch Award each January to May. Silver Birch is an English book club that runs in schools across the province. Participating students must read five out of 10 Canadian books – either fiction or non-fiction. They vote on the books and the winning author is awarded the Silver Birch Award.
Author Visits
Events are planned throughout the school year to invite authors to meet directly with students to talk about their books. Author visits complement the school curriculum.
French Book Sales
To help parents create a library of French books at home, book sales are held annually and offer a wide selection of French resources.
Birthday Book Club
All parents are invited to enrol their children in the Birthday Book Club. On their birthdays, club members are allowed to pick a new book from the librarian’s collection and bring it home for a one-week period. After this time, the book is returned and remains the property of the School. A book plate is placed inside the book indicating that the book was given to the library in honour of the child’s birth date, with his or her name included. This club operates on the Toronto campus only.
