| Working @ TFS – Professional Development |
|
To enable all employees to contribute to a strong school community, TFS puts a priority on professional development and promoting from within. In order to foster professional growth, we provide resources to all staff for customized learning to support individual and school-wide needs. Learning Teachers, instructional leaders and support staff are central to student success. To offer them real opportunities for growth, TFS provides a comprehensive professional development program made up of both internal and external learning opportunities. Through our current PD Plan, TFS focuses on four areas: critical thinking, differentiated learning, character education and the enhanced and responsible use of IT. The PD Plan involves teachers and administration staff in acquiring and sharing knowledge, skills and resources in these four key elements by participating in professional activities, both outside and within the School. To meet their professional needs, teachers, instructional leaders and support staff also attend numerous conferences in Canada and abroad dealing with a variety of topics in both French and English. These activities are offered by various professional organizations and by the International Baccalaureate Organization, the French Ministry of Education and the Ontario Ministry of Education. They complement the in-house professional development activities organized by the School’s curriculum leaders. To keep the School running smoothly, members of our administration team must have opportunities for continuous learning, too. Our administration team members (in Admissions, Human Resources, Development, Marketing and the Business Office) attend workshops and professional conferences in order to stay current in their respective fields. Mentoring In the Junior Schools, each new teacher is paired with an experienced teacher who can provide support and advice about the curriculum and School culture. In the Senior School, new teachers are guided through their first year by the department coordinator, curriculum leader or a peer teacher. Growing TFS puts a strong emphasis on promoting from within. And there are many opportunities to try new roles because of TFS’ structure. As an independent school, TFS is a school and mini-school board all in one. |
