A Mississauga Fundraiser Fit for Canada’s International School

It used to be that hot dogs made for a good, old-fashioned fundraiser for the Grade 7 graduating class at TFS' Mississauga campus. However, with the evolution of our new name came a new awareness; maybe the annual fundraising campaign – to fund their trip to Camp Kanawana, their graduation celebrations and their graduation sweatshirt – should reflect more about TFS.

Said Ulrik Bedos, the Grade 7 teacher at the Mississauga campus, “this year our Grade 7's wanted to do something healthier and more original. Offering an international menu is a good way to represent TFS.”

A world-wide culinary tour
And so the idea of Le tour de monde en cinq repas was born, with a menu created by the Grade 7 students themselves. Five lunches will be offered to fellow students over the coming weeks. On Monday, January 17th, the first meal was served – penne with meatballs, representing Italy.  The other four countries, or regions, whose cuisine will round out the global taste extravaganza include South America, the US, France and India.

All student hands on deck
Not only did the students come up with the international meal plan, they also ran the whole show – with a little adult help, of course. They took orders and ran a logistics practice drill. Then on the day of the fundraiser, they both served the food and cleaned up afterwards. However, as M. Bedos pointed out, they also got a free meal as a reward.

We wish the Grade 7 class at the Mississauga campus the best of luck with their multi-cultural, culinary fundraising efforts!
