Each year at the Level V graduation ceremony, awards and prizes are presented to students to acknowledge an impressive range of accomplishments. The following is a list of the annual awards and prizes:

University of Toronto National Book Award and The University of Toronto Arbour Scholarship Award
Each year, the School is invited to nominate one student for the University of Toronto National Scholarship program. The student must demonstrate broad academic achievement, original and creative thought, involvement in the School community and intellectual curiosity.

Smith Book Award
Since its founding in 1871, Smith College has provided women of high ability and promise an education of uncompromising quality. The recipient of the Smith Book Award exemplifies the academic achievement, leadership qualities and concern for others that characterize the Smith College population.

Le Prix Roberte Risgalla
Ce prix est remis aux élèves qui, étant candidats au Diplôme Bilingue du Baccalauréat International, ont aussi soumis leur mémoire en langue française.

Cynthia Nazarian Debating Prize
The Cynthia Nazarian Debating Prize is awarded to a graduating student who has achieved the best performance in competitive debating.

Philippe Fayoux Memorial Award for Fine Arts
A certificate provided by the TFS Alumni Association is awarded to a member of the graduating class for his or her contribution in the arts, ranging from painting and sculpting through drama and music to poetry and creative writing. A piece of the award winner’s work is framed and displayed in the Senior School. Nominations for this award are made by members of both the staff and the graduating class.

Ivar Luksep Memorial Sportsmen’s Award
A medal provided by the TFS Alumni Association is awarded to the boy and girl of the graduating class who best display the attributes of a good athlete, leadership and sportsmanship.

Parents’ Association Prize
The winner of this prize is determined by the TFS Parents’ Association and is awarded to the member of the graduating class who has been active in assisting with School activities and has attended TFS for four years or more.

Jocelyn Clare Memorial Award
A plaque provided by the TFS Alumni Association in memory of Jocelyn Clare, is awarded to a graduating student in recognition of voluntary community work and willingness to speak out on issues of social concern.

Seja Von Wersebe Fellowship Award
The Seja Von Wersebe Fellowship Award is presented to both a girl and a boy of the Senior Class who have most consistently demonstrated loyalty and compassion to their peers.

Le Prix du Consulat Général de France
The French Consulate presents books to the members of the graduating class who have shown the greatest interest in French culture, both in their daily lives and in their studies.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Award
The insignia provided by the office of the Lieutenant Governor is awarded annually to the graduating student in recognition of exemplary voluntary involvement in the community.

The S.W. Karrys Family Scholarship
The S.W. Karrys Family Scholarship is awarded to two students (preferably a boy and a girl), in their graduating year of Senior School, who combine academic achievement, intellectual curiosity and outstanding performance in sports. These students exemplify leadership, dedication and perseverance. They have set special goals for themselves and have achieved a high standard of performance, both in class and in sports.

The Edward Tory Award
A plaque is given to the students in the graduating class who demonstrate a superior level of academic achievement (currently defined as a graduation average of at least 90%) calculated on the basis of their best 4U/M courses completed at Toronto French School. These students must have selected a rigorous academic program, but do not qualify to win the Founder’s Award, or the Governor General’s Academic Medal.

Headmaster’s Award
A carving provided by Toronto French School is awarded to the best all-around student of the graduating class for his or her leadership, high academic standing and involvement in cultural activities. Nominations are made by members of both the staff and the graduating class.

The Founder’s Award
A plaque is awarded to the student who, having selected a rigorous academic program, has achieved the second highest grade average calculated on his or her Grade 11 and 12 marks.

Governor General’s Academic Medal
A medal and a certificate provided by the office of the Governor General are awarded to the student with the highest academic standing in the graduating class calculated from all Grade 11 and 12 marks as listed on the student’s official transcript.

The Anna Giles Medal
A medal, along with a cheque, is awarded to the member or members of the graduating class who have attended TFS for a minimum of five years. The qualities that will largely determine the selection of the award winner are goodness, integrity, decency, and love of life. Academic distinction will not be a determining factor, but the nominee(s) should be diligent and hardworking, with a level of performance above average.

Toronto French School Community Service Award
This award is presented to students of the graduating class who have far exceeded the service component of their CAS requirements. This year all nominees have completed a minimum of four times the expectations, accumulating over 200 hours of community service.

The Paulette Bosnjak Humanitas Award
This award is designed to recognize a Mississauga student who has shown outstanding behaviour, dedication to their studies, kindness and consideration towards others and serious application to the study and use of French in the School. A cheque is awarded and the recipient’s name is engraved on a plaque displayed in the foyer of TFS Mississauga.

Scholars’ Guild
Prizes are awarded at the end of each year to students from Grade 7 through Level V with the outstanding academic results. Students must be well-rounded with a commitment to learning and a positive attitude towards their studies and their peers. Students from Toronto and Mississauga are selected. Recipients receive a pin and a cheque and have their name engraved on a plaque at the Senior School.
