At TFS, there is a strong culture of community involvement with many senior students devoting their time and talents to community service. Activities include organizing fundraising events at TFS for various charities, raising awareness among other students about important causes, and volunteering in the community. Junior School students all participate in events such as the Terry Fox Run or Jump for the Heart, which have a history of being particularly successful. May is Awareness Month each year and students attend presentations to learn about key issues or causes and then do something meaningful to support them. The goal is to raise awareness as well as to raise funds for the cause. The causes chosen vary each year. In December, the focus is on sharing with needy children. One of the requirements of the IB Diploma is the CAS program. This requires each student to be involved in creative pursuits, physical activities and community service over the two IB years (Levels IV and V). TFS students routinely exceed that requirement and often complete many more hours. The Outreach Club attracts many students from Levels 1 through V and these students organized a variety of fundraisers at TFS. Activities included food drives, a talent show to support the Stephen Lewis Foundation, a toy drive, a one-day vow of silence for Free the Children, World Hunger Awareness, a 30-Hour famine for World Vision, a car wash with the Student Council for Street Kids International and a fundraiser for the Leukemia Society, among other things.
