TFS Robotic Unicorns compete in 2022 First Tech Challenge provincials

The TFS Robotic Unicorns team, under the student leadership of  Zachary X., designed and programmed their robot to compete in the 2021-2022 First Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics competition.
They advanced to the provincial championship in February, advancing from two regional qualifying events. Although competition was fierce, their robot impressed the judges with its innovative design, including the use of sensors, encoders and an articulating robotic arm. Competing against 31 teams across Ontario, the TFS Robotic Unicorns achieved second highest robot score and also received second place for the Innovate Award.

The team programmed their robot to work autonomously and via remote control. Points were awarded as the robot picked up, transported and loaded blocks strategically. “The theme of this year’s FTC challenge was Freight Frenzy,” said Bob Tarle, TFS Executive Director of Innovation & Technology. “Students were engaged in hands-on engineering and problem solving focused on a shipping industry ripe for innovation via autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles.”

With the generous support of the TFS Parents’ Association, the Senior School robotics club runs throughout the school year, with focus on robot design, construction and programming.
