Entrance Scholarship Program

The opportunity of a lifetime

FULL SCHOLARSHIPS for students entering Grade 7 and above
The deadline to submit your scholarship application for the 2025-2026 school year is December 1, 2024.

The TFS Entrance Scholarship Program provides an opportunity for exceptional students entering Grade 7 or above to benefit from an enriched learning environment. All of our students graduate bilingual in English and French, and are accepted into their university of choice, in Canada and worldwide.

TFS will award scholarships to students who demonstrate high academic standing, involvement in their school and/or community, as well as financial need. Entrance Scholarships are renewable every year until graduation, if the student maintains an average of 80% and meets the conditions noted on the right side of this page.

Financial need is assessed by an independent third party, Apple Financial Services. Applications must be submitted to Apple Financial by December 1, 2024 in order to ensure that the Scholarship Committee has all the information required to make a decision.

Students do not need to speak French to apply for Grade 7 scholarships, but must be keenly interested in becoming bilingual. However, students applying for Grade 8 and above must be fluent in French.

We are now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 scholarships and encourage students who are seeking an exceptional education to apply. For more information, please contact the Admissions Office at 416-484-6980 ext. 4247 or by email at admissions@tfs.ca.

Please note that the Entrance Scholarship is open to Canadian residents only.

List of 4 frequently asked questions.

  • Why TFS?

    • As the pioneer of French immersion in Canada, TFS provides an exceptional bilingual education that is academically rigorous and balanced. Our students graduate fully bilingual in French and English, and obtain the French Brevet and internationally recognized IB Diploma. Learn more about the IB program and about the French program.
    • Consistent with TFS’ yearly results, 100% of our graduates of 2024 were distinguished as Ontario Scholars (averages of 80%+) and 81% were eligible to receive the Bilingual or Advanced Bilingual Diploma.
    • Not surprisingly, 100% of our 2024 graduates received university offers of choice.
    • Renowned for our strength in academics and languages, TFS also offers a wealth of co-curricular activities, including sports, arts and opportunities to engage in social/community action. Our students become friends for life, and in our co-educational environment, boys and girls learn teamwork, teambuilding and cooperative behaviour together.
    • TFS prepares its students to enter the university and career of their choice, while becoming engaged citizens of the world.
  • Who should apply?

    • Students who will be entering Grade 7 or above in September 2025 and who don’t currently attend TFS.
    • Entrance scholars will be selected based on academic merit, involvement in their school and/or community, as well as financial need.
    • Academic eligibility: candidates should be able to demonstrate a minimum A average in the past two academic years.
    • Financial eligibility: We define financial need as a family’s inability to pay for even a portion of TFS’ tuition fees. The Entrance Scholarships are meant to provide an enriched learning opportunity to an exceptional student who would not otherwise have the resources to attend TFS.
    • As financial need depends on the circumstances and composition of each family, no firm thresholds are set. However, families (including single parents and recent arrivals to Canada) are strongly encouraged to apply if their annual income is less than $80,000.
    • Students currently in immersion or French schools are strongly urged to apply, as well as those in English-language schools (applying to Grade 7). Grade 7 entrance scholars who are not fluent in French will enter our special Intro program for the first year, which follows the regular curriculum but with a special focus on language acquisition. This is offered at our West Campus in Mississauga; busing may be available.
    • Scholarships are intended for domestic applicants only, defined as students living in Canada at the time of application. It is the responsibility of the family to obtain any visa/permits necessary to live and study in Canada.
  • How to Apply?

TFS is currently accepting scholarship applications for candidates to begin their studies with us in September 2025. To start, please complete our online application. In addition to completing the application form, student candidates and their parents will be asked to:
    • Submit the most recent report card and the previous two years’ final reports. The academic record should demonstrate a minimum A average. Include any special awards or records of achievement.
    • Send the Confidential School Report to their current school to be completed and forwarded directly to TFS.
    • Submit two (2) letters of recommendation. These can be from a teacher, school administrator, coach or other adult (non-family member) who is knowledgeable about the student’s strengths, accomplishments, special interests and potential.
    • Submit a 300-word student personal statement, helping us to get to know candidates better and why they want to join TFS.
    • All candidates, for the Toronto and West campus, are required to participate in a group assessment (math, English and French, if applicable), an activity and student-led tour, held at the Toronto Campus.
    • Select students will be invited to write a French test (if applicable).
    • Submit a financial assessment application to Apple Financial by December 1, 2024. A Scholarship Committee will review all applications. Selected candidates will be invited to attend a personal interview with the Scholarship Committee in February 2025.
  • FAQ / Terms and Conditions

How many scholarships are available? What are the chances of my child being selected?
TFS plans to award one new scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year. The eligibility criteria for our Entrance Scholarships are quite narrow.

Therefore, if your child has a strong academic/community involvement record and demonstrated financial need, we strongly encourage you to apply.

What does financial need mean? I make a decent income, but could never afford to send my child to private school.
The Entrance Scholarships are meant to provide an enriched learning opportunity to an exceptional student who would not otherwise have the resources to reach their full potential.

As financial need depends on the circumstances and composition of each family, no firm thresholds are set. However, families (including single parents and recent arrivals to Canada) are strongly encouraged to apply if their annual income is less than $80,000.
