Maggie W., TFS' eco warrior

Maggie W., TFS’ current environmental prefect and Première Citoyenne-elect, was recently featured in EcoSchools Canada’s annual report.
EcoSchools Canada provides independent environmental certification for schools and education centres across the country. In 2019, TFS was granted platinum status by this organization for the second year in a row, the highest level of certification a school can receive.

EcoSchools Canada also strives to empower young environmental leaders, and chose to profile Maggie, a Level IV student at TFS, in its latest annual report.

Maggie joined the Globe Club when she was in Grade 6 and quickly became one of its most active members. This year, she was chosen as head of the club and as the school’s environmental prefect. One of the priorities she set out was to work alongside the administration and parent community to reduce waste. Major changes have been implemented at TFS in the past few years. For instance, reusable water bottles have been provided to all students and teachers, and single-use plastic cups have been removed from the cafeteria. Soon, all plastic plates and cutlery will be replaced by china and flatware, while dimmable LED lighting will be installed.

Maggie’s impressive efforts and leadership will be taken to the next level in the coming school year, as she was just elected TFS’ Première Citoyenne by her classmates.
