At TFS, being a part of an international community begins with embracing the bilingual fabric that connects us to our own country.
However, true culture isn't found in a textbook, but in the streets, stories and spirit of the people who speak the language. That is why every year, our Grade 6 students journey to Québec City, not just to sightsee, but to immerse themselves in the living history of French Canada, during its coldest season! From January 19 through to 23, la ville de Québec became their classroom for the week. The curriculum came to life through immersive experiences, from exploring the Indigenous traditions of the Huron-Wendat Village and the military history of the Martello Towers, to witnessing the frozen artistry of the Hôtel de Glace. And whether it was practising their French at a traditional sugar shack or visiting the Musée de la civilisation, our students moved beyond the page and into the culture itself.
By the time they stood over the roaring Montmorency Falls, our students weren't simple tourists, but young Canadians engaging with the heritage of their country. This journey is a vital part of our commitment to bilingualism as a gateway to broader perspectives, proving that the best way to learn a language is to live it.
