Say hello to new members on the TFS Foundation Board

Ryan Churchill

The TFS Foundation Board of Directors welcomes new members and thanks outgoing members for their many years of outstanding service.
The TFS Foundation is  proud to welcome Kevin Cai, Fei Jiang and Trent Mell to the TFS Foundation Board of Directors. We also say thank you to Max Koeune and Nancy Cohen ’78 for their many years of incredible service.

Arrivals
Jingquan (Kevin) Cai is the CFO at Runsheng Group Co. Ltd.  and founder of Bailian Runqi Electric Power Engineering and Huijing Asset Management. Kevin and his wife, Shan Guo, joined the TFS community two years ago when they enrolled their eldest son, QiDa in Jardin d’éveil Hafez.  Almost immediately, Kevin and Shan became engaged with initiatives at the school. Now, with QiDa in Junior Kindergarten and their second child, Qizhen, in Pre-Kindergarten, the family has deepened their commitment by bringing Kevin’s creativity and enthusiasm to the TFS Foundation Board.

Fei and her husband Raymond Hu joined TFS in 2016 when they enrolled their son, Justin. Fei is a financial advisor at Sun Life and holds graduate engineering and business degrees from universities in both China and Canada. She is a dedicated volunteer in the local Chinese community and an avid golfer, badminton and squash player, and skier. The TFS Foundation is excited to benefit from Fei’s guidance and knowledge as she adds her voice to the board.

Trent and his wife, Yvonne Huh, officially joined TFS in 2017 with the enrollment of their daughter, Vienna, now in Level I, and son Calum, now in grade 6. Trent and Yvonne are also uncle and aunt to Celeste Yim, recipient of the 2022 Young Alumni of Distinction award. Trent holds graduate business and law degrees, has over 25 years of international business and operational experience, and is the Founder, President and CEO of Electra Battery Materials. He has sat on the boards of Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited and Boost Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, where he was Chairman of the board from 2016 to 2019. We are grateful that Trent is bringing his experience and expertise to the TFS Foundation Board of Directors.

Departures

Max Koeune and his wife, Coralie, became a part of the TFS family in 2013 when they chose TFS for their three children. Margaux graduated in 2018 and Maya in 2021. Son Cosmo is due to graduate next year in 2024. The family moved to Toronto when Max joined McCain Foods as CFO in 2012. He would later become the company's president and CEO. As the Foundation began to form a new board, Max graciously accepted an invitation to join in 2018 and his and Coralie’s philanthropic support, leadership and advice have been instrumental to our success ever since. In many ways, Max and Coralie embody the TFS ideal of global citizens. Max grew up between Luxembourg, France, Iran and Germany, and the family has lived in Switzerland, Mexico, the US, UK, France, and of course, Canada. In addition to French and English, Max and Coralie are both fluent in Spanish, with Max fluent in German and Luxembourgish as well. The impact of Max’s and Coralie’s contributions to the TFS Foundation Board and the school will continue to be felt for years to come.

A Class of ’78 grad, parent of two wonderful TFS alumni, a leader and volunteer at the school for over four decades, Nancy Cohen, along with her husband Stephen Goldhar, has helped shape TFS to what it is today. Some of her many roles with the TFS Foundation Board since 2013 include chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee from 2018-2022, chair of the Donor Relations & Stewardship Sub-committee from 2015-2018, and a member of the Past Parent Engagement Committee from 2014-2018. Nancy has also worked with the Alumni Executive since the eighties, providing meaningful opportunities for TFS alumni to stay connected, helped build the Terry Fox Run to the important event it is at TFS today, co-founded the Alumni of Distinction Awards, served as an alumni representative and as President of the Parents’ Association, and played a defining role in the creation of the TFS Archives. She is a recent Alumni of Distinction Award winner, receiving Le prix du service distingué and for her many years of exemplary service, the award was named in her honour.

The TFS Foundation expresses its deepest gratitude for the guidance, support and leadership of Nancy Cohen and Max Koeune.
