Charles Knapp '80, The Nancy S. Cohen Distinguished Service Award Recipient 2025

A dedicated TFS alumnus and parent, Dr. Charles Knapp has been actively involved with the TFS community for decades, serving on the Alumni of Distinction Committee and contributing to major campaigns like Soaring Beyond. He is a staff anesthesiologist at North York General Hospital and an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, where he directs Continuing Medical Education and mentors residents.

Charles earned his MD from McMaster University and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1993. He has served on numerous medical committees, including the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario’s Quality Assurance Committee. Passionate about global health, he volunteers as a Regional Anesthesia Specialist with Operation Walk Canada, providing hip and knee replacements in Guatemala. Outside medicine, Charles organizes international anesthesia conferences combined with cycling tours, reflecting his love of travel and sport.

He credits his lifelong appreciation for the French language to TFS teachers Mmes. Gharghouri, Bouchard, Latour and Brand.
