Academic Ambition

University Counselling

Representing a core aspect of their TFS education, the University Counselling team guides senior students through career exploration, considerations of universities and programs, and ultimately through the process of applying to post-secondary institutions in Canada and internationally. We purposefully foster our students’ independence of thought, as they contemplate their continuing development as individuals, and citizens.

Special Events

Our University Counseling team hosts numerous special events and programs for careers and post secondary planning throughout the year. These include:

  • visits from more than 50 university liaison and admission officers each year;
  • university evenings focusing on the application process, admissions criteria, and academic programs for Canadian, American and international universities;
  • university campus visits;
  • career spotlight series with our alumni and parents;
  • and, an online mentorship program connecting our alumni with students in Grades 11 and 12 (Levels IV and V).

Senior School Learning Forum

Recently renovated in 2017, and centrally located in the Senior School. The Senior School Learning Forum is composed of a team of grade level-specific guidance counsellors, learning specialists and specialized university counsellors. A beautiful library with multiple collaborative spaces, it is well-loved and much-used by our students. The services provided include:

Post-Secondary Planning Resources

In addition to our team of experienced counsellors, the Guidance and University Counselling area is home to a host of other resources. The library contains an extensive collection of university viewbooks, standardized testing preparation information and books and guides about universities at home and abroad.

All Senior School students have a MyBlueprint account, which is used regularly in guidance classes for self-assessment, as well as research on careers and post-secondary planning. Students are also taught how to access university research databases around the world to learn about university programs and scholarship and financial aid information.

The Senior School Learning Forum oversees all standardized test preparation at the Senior School. The PSAT is available for all Grade 10 and 11 students (Level III and IV) who wish to write it, and TFS has partnered with Princeton Review to offer a SAT preparation course for our Level IV students. Support and resources are available for those taking the TOEFL, SAT and ACT tests, including test registration information, booklets, preparation courses, and workshops.
